Memorial for Anna Heinl

Two notices for Anna Heinl: from a local German language paper and the evening edition of the English daily. The information is similar, but not identical; the German notice includes a comment about the event and the name of the cemetery. One is clearly a memorial, the other is a helpful, but perfunctory piece of information.

Germany Under Glass; Milwaukee's Mitchell Park Domes, March 2, 2013

A visitor to "Germany Under Glass" browses my display of samples from Milwaukee's German newspapers. The display was created for German Fest 2012, and four new panels will be added for German Fest 2013, along with the entire index in tow. A copy of my first book in the series: "Milwaukee's German Newspapers ..." may be available to browse this summer!

A wealth of research information for many of our 99%

Two obituaries for John Gstoettner, one with a picture, in addition to multiple death notices in multiple papers - a real family research treat. There was even an article describing the funeral and burial -- and he wasn't a beer baron?

If you're looking for depth of research it's important to check for multiple obituaries, compare the selection of death notices in multiple papers, check for a burial article, check the Danksagung for the unique information that can be found there. (yes, genealogy lady, there really is valuable information in the Danksagung).

inspiration from Rabbi Hecht ...

Besides assisting the average family researcher, inspiration for continuing work in the German newspapers comes from the papers themselves, like the theme of Rabbi Hecht's series in the 1880s: "Be true to thyself!" (Der Herold, Milwaukee, Wis.).
